Innovation waste management

At Sherbourne Resource Park, your rubbish is our business and it’s a business we take seriously. Recycling is sorted by state-of-the-art waste management solutions that includes advanced robotics, AI technology and optical sorters that can tell the difference between various items – such as a carton from a drinks can. AI-driven, interconnected technology at the core of our plant allows our smart sorting equipment to talk to one another in real time, meaning we can go as far as sorting individual items from the waste stream.

Sherbourne Resource Park at a glance:

Responsible, renewable, regenerative

Being responsible isn’t just about the waste itself. We are also committed to sustainability in all we do and are currently working towards B-Corp status. This coveted title means a company has been certified to meet demanding standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Photovoltaic cells on our roof, plus a connection to a waste-generated energy source means we are proud to say that 100% of the power we use has been renewable from day one. But we’re still looking for ways to increase our sustainability and lower our carbon footprint. We’ve also invested in an electric forklift fleet and new sustainable technology for the plant vehicles that move materials around our site, so everything coming in or going out is as low impact as possible.

Waste separation technology

The design principles underpinning our plant have always focused on quality over throughput, which is why we partnered with Machinex, an industry leader in material recovery equipment and combined these with traditional sorting methods, leading to the most advanced materials recycling facility in the UK.

Sherbourne Resource Park consists of a combination of optical sorters, sorting robots, screens, ballistics and balers, in a closed loop control system, all driven by AI and allowing real time monitoring of (and changes to) processes and waste streams.
