Sherbourne Recycling director joins pEPR advisory committee

Greg Paradowski, technical and operations director at Sherbourne Recycling, has been appointed to the PackUK pEPR Recycling Assessment Methodology Technical Advisory Committee (RAM TAC). Comprising representatives from across the packaging value chain, the body is responsible for providing expert insight and guidance to help support the successful national roll-out of pEPR.

With sixteen years’ experience in the materials recovery and waste management industries, Paradowski is renowned for his technical expertise and critical thinking. Having guided Sherbourne Recycling, one of the world’s most advanced materials recovery facilities, from design through to operation, he is well versed in the critical importance of sustainable packaging design and its role in achieving a truly circular economy.

As part of RAM TAC, Paradowski will offer his insight into resource efficiency, design for recycling and national waste composition. In addition, he will share his expertise surrounding the packaging value chain, aligned environmental issues and the barriers to meeting national waste management targets.

Recently speaking about RAM TAC in the industry, Margarat Bates, head of the pEPR scheme administrator, explained that RAM TAC will play a crucial role in providing expert guidance and advice on technical matters relating to the delivery of the pEPR scheme. Bringing together a trusted committee with demonstratable experience in packaging, recyclability and the value chain will help to ensure that the scheme achieves widespread success.

Paradowski added: “Being appointed as one of just 15 RAM TAC committee members is a real privilege. I’m looking forward to offering my insight, counsel and consultancy on the technical aspects of the scheme’s assessment methodology, to ultimately help increase national recycling rates.

“Alongside running plant operations, a key part of my day-to-day role at Sherbourne Recycling is to deliver product trials, data and evidence for packaging manufacturers regarding the recyclability of their latest innovations. This means that I have considerable knowledge about the difference between recyclability in theory (packaging made from recyclable materials) and in practice (packaging that will actually be recycled through existing infrastructure).

“Being able to harness this knowledge within the context of pEPR will prove hugely valuable to guiding successive iterations of the assessment methodology.”
