Job Opportunity – HR Manager
As a new and market leading organisation, we are looking to develop our in-house HR function and are looking to take on our first HR Manager. This will be a standalone role with external legal support and mentoring provided.
Job Purpose
The HR Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources management, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and compliance with HR policies and UK employment law. This role is pivotal in fostering a positive work culture and ensuring the business attracts, retains, and develops top talent.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage employee relations, providing advice and support on HR issues, grievances, and disciplinary matters.
• Oversee performance management processes, including appraisals and development plans.
• Develop and implement HR policies and procedures aligned with company objectives and UK employment law.
• Lead the end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, interviews, and onboarding.
• Manage employee relations, providing advice and support on HR issues, grievances, and disciplinary matters.
• Oversee performance management processes, including appraisals and development plans.
• Implement training and development programmes to enhance employee skills and career growth.
• Ensure compliance with all employment laws.
• Support the management of the outsourced payroll processes and benefits administration in collaboration with finance.
• Drive employee engagement initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture.
• Provide HR reports and analytics to support strategic decision-making.
Key Skills & Experience
• Proven experience as an HR Manager or similar role, preferably within the waste management, recycling, or related industries.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
• Experience in talent acquisition, performance management, and employee relations.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism.
• CIPD Level 5 or higher qualification preferred.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Whilst this is not a unionised environment, experience of working with unions would be helpful.
• Prior experience of using People HR would be beneficial.
• A continuous growth and learning approach is essential.
Role Information
• £20,000 - £25,000 salary (pro rata).
• 20 – 25 hours a week, flexible working hours across 5 days.
• On-site role, based in Coventry, CV3 4AR.
• Including staff benefits and schemes available.
About the Company
Sherbourne Recycling is the operating company of a brand new, state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility based in Coventry. It operates on behalf of eight local authorities across the region to process the dry mixed kerbside residential recycling of 1.5 million residents.
The facility uses specialist, industry-leading AI sorting and machine learning technology to produce a purer than industry average recyclate. This quality makes the materials produced suitable to be reused in the U.K, contributing to a sustainable future.
